The NordicTrack x32i also has a larger footprint at 76.5″ x 40″. Compared to X22’s footprint at 70” x 39” inches.
The X22 also has a smaller tread running area with a 60″ x 22″ running area. The X32 has an incredibly large 65″ x 22″ tread running area.
To pull the bigger tread, the x32i comes with a class leading 4.25 chp (continuous horsepower) motor. While the X22 features a 4.0 chp motor, which is still considered very strong.

Performance Review
When comparing the NordicTrack treadmills, the x32i and the x22i, you’re evaluating two of the brand’s most high-end models, and this speaks volumes about their quality. NordicTrack, founded in the early 1970s by Edward Pauls in Minnesota, has earned a reputation as one of the most trusted names in home fitness. Their treadmill offerings, in particular, stand out due to their interactive consoles, heart rate monitoring, Android operating system, and programmable workouts through iFit. Notably, both of these models offer an impressive 40% incline, making them among the steepest incline options available in any home treadmill.
NordicTrack x32i
Spending time testing the NordicTrack x32i proved to be a delightful surprise given its reputation and accolades. Considered the original incline trainer, it offers an impressive range of options, boasting inclines of up to 40% and declines of 6%. At first glance, the x32i appears as a substantial treadmill, notably longer than the x22i. Its generous 22 x 65-inch tread running area, which is 5 inches longer, makes a remarkable difference, especially when running on steep inclines, adding a sense of safety and stability. The crowning piece of tech is its gigantic 32-inch touchscreen display, perfectly suited for enjoying Netflix while training or diving into their extensive list of iFit classes.
Stepping onto the NordicTrack x32i, the extended tread area significantly enhances its stability, offering the feel of a high-end gym treadmill. As I started running, the deck proved to be one of the most comfortable I’ve experienced, providing a perfect fusion of cushioning and responsiveness. Even with the larger tread area, the 4.5 CHP motor effortlessly powers through challenging hills, even at the highest incline offered in the market—an impressive 40% grade that demands serious respect. And let’s not forget the decline running option, one of my favorite features on the treadmill. However, the inability to turn the display can make non-treadmill-related classes feel somewhat cumbersome.
All in all, the NordicTrack x32i unquestionably qualifies as a treadmill powerhouse, encompassing almost every feature one could desire. With its steep incline, decline, and sled pushing options, it elevates any runner’s performance, especially during the colder and wetter months when mountain running becomes challenging. My only real quibble with the x32i is the fixed screen, which slightly hampers its usability for non-treadmill-related classes—a feature that many users find desirable. Despite this minor flaw, I must admit that this is truly one of the most exceptional treadmills I have ever had the pleasure of testing.
NordicTrack x22i Treadmill
On first impression, the NordicTrack x22i is an attractive treadmill that immediately captures attention with its elegant design and impressive range of features. It offers a more compact size at 70 inches in total length, which is 6.5 inches shorter and weighs less at 462 lbs, making it a great fit for most home gyms. Despite being more compact than the x32i, it doesn’t compromise on high-end features, providing an almost identical experience at a more affordable price point.
One of the standout features of the x22i is the combination of a touchscreen and physical buttons, which is particularly beneficial when your hands get sweaty during workouts. This user-friendly interface makes starting and adjusting the treadmill effortless. The running experience on the x22i is delightful, thanks to its cushioned yet firm deck, a hallmark of NordicTrack’s quality. The 4 CHP motor performs exceptionally well, offering simulated steep hills and rugged trails, elevating your workout to new heights. The only noticeable drawback compared to the x32i is the shorter tread length, which may be more apparent during steep inclines. Additionally, the display is smaller than its counterpart.
Despite these considerations, the NordicTrack x22i strikes an excellent balance between form and function, especially considering its price point. The motor’s performance is exceptional, and the deck remains top-notch, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable workout experience. Moreover, its ideal size makes it a winner for most smaller home gyms, setting it apart from the competition in the treadmill market.

Conclusion
When comparing the NordicTrack treadmill x32i vs. x22i, you are evaluating two of the most highly rated home treadmills and incline trainers on the market. Both are incredibly feature-rich, offering runners large displays, incline grades up to 40%, decline running options to -6%, and both feature a strong motor to power you through your workouts, even at high inclines. With the decks being two of the most responsive tread decks I’ve ever had the privilege to test, providing an impressive balance of cushioning, firmness, and rebound. But which one of these treadmills should you buy?
Which Should You Buy?
If you have the space and budget for the x32i, it is the more stable and safer machine to run on. The extra 5 inches of tread space allows you to fully extend, especially when running at up to a 40% incline, giving you more room for error and confidence to push your speed and workouts to another level.
However, if space and budget are constraints, the x22i is an excellent choice. It offers all the same features in a more compact size. Just keep in mind that during high inclines, you might have a slightly smaller screen and a bit of a “don’t drift backward, or I’m going to fall off” feeling. If you’re not planning on running at a higher pace during inclines and don’t mind the smaller screen, the x22i offers excellent value for your money.
