LifeStraw Peak 1-liter Review:
When unboxing the LifeStraw Peak 1-liter for the first time, a couple of things immediately stood out to me. First, the thickness of the bladder caught my attention. It feels remarkably durable, yet remains pliable for easy storage. The next feature that caught my eye was the size and fully closed design of the filter, which connects to the top of the bladder. Initially, it felt a bit bulky and heavy, but that changed after reading the instructions. I discovered that the filter can be used as a straw to filter water without the bladder—an impressive and convenient feature. With the filter being straightforward to use, I gave it a thorough wash and packed it in my running pack for its maiden voyage on a 100-mile course.
Out on the trails, the LifeStraw Peak series exceeded my expectations as a filter. I loved the ability to quickly scoop water and go, eliminating the need to waste time filling water bottles. Additionally, the 1-liter sizing was ideal for filling my two 500ml bottles in one go. The thick material and closing cap provided reassurance against any concerns of bladder damage, allowing me to squeeze the filter and achieve an excellent flow rate.
However, before declaring the filter perfect, there are a couple of aspects of the Peak Series that I didn’t like. Firstly, there was a lingering plastic taste that persisted longer than expected. Despite being BPA-free, nobody wants to taste plastic in their water. Secondly, the filter’s weight posed a slight inconvenience. While it contributes to the durability and multifunctionality, it also adds noticeable weight. Consequently, I’m less inclined to pack it as my emergency filter for short trail runs. Nonetheless, I could always take the filter alone and use it as a straw when needed.
Closing Thoughts – Would I Buy the LifeStraw Peak Series Again?
The LifeStraw Peak Series collapsible water filter proves to be a reliable companion for outdoor enthusiasts in need of a convenient and effective filtration solution. Its comprehensive protection against contaminants, durability, and leak-proof performance make it stand out among squeeze filters. And I’d say it’s going to be one of the more durable squeeze filter on the market. While the plastic taste and added weight are slight drawbacks, the benefits of this collapsible water filter far outweigh these minor concerns. The versatility of its design, long filter lifespan, and adherence to drinking water standards further cement its reliability. For the price, I would unquestionably purchase another filter from the LifeStraw Peak Series. Don’t miss out on the convenience and peace of mind provided by this must-have outdoor adventure essential.
