Performance Review
Sole has built a strong reputation in the industry over many years, selling treadmills in the United States for over two decades and earning numerous best-in-class honors. Many people discover the brand while researching their highly-rated and budget-friendly entry-level models. However, Sole offers exceptional value as their prices increase, with both the F80 and F85 serving as prime examples of feature-rich treadmills at a mid-level price point. In this comparison, we’ll delve deeper into the Sole F80 vs. F85 treadmills.
Sole F80
The Sole F80 boasts a comfortable treadmill size, featuring a running tread area of 22”x60”. Notably larger than the brand’s smaller F63, especially during your running sessions. The increased size offers improved cushioning, and the larger LCD screen is a definite advantage when utilizing the built-in workouts. It’s worth noting that I wish there were more room on the safety bars, especially for incline running enthusiasts like myself; an extra foot would provide added safety. However, I understand the rationale behind their design choice. Both of these models have a space-saving footprint when folded.
Running on the F80 feels spacious, and the tread cushioning provides excellent comfort, particularly during long runs. This is a notable feature, especially for heavier runners taking advantage of the 350lb weight limit. One of the most impressive aspects of this treadmill is the robust 3.5hp motor, which feels powerful when tackling steep inclines above 10%. Overall, the F80 performs admirably, though it lacks some of the technological features found in higher-priced models. However, if you don’t require a video screen (you can conveniently use the tablet holder for your phone or tablet), the F80 offers exceptional value for its price.
Sole F85
The Sole F85 shares the same frame and dimensions as the F80, making them initially look quite similar. However, the standout feature here is the display. Gone are the conventional treadmill-style buttons and display; in their place is a 15.6-inch screen with phone/tablet mirroring capabilities, elevating the treadmill’s overall quality. Aside from the screen, the display, cup holders, and side bars remain the same between the two models.
Another significant upgrade in the Sole F85 is the inclusion of a 4hp motor. This more powerful motor also increases the treadmill’s weight capacity to 375lbs, making it one of the highest weight limits available in a treadmill at the $2,000 price range—a key selling point for many customers.
For me, running on the F85 was an absolute joy. I was able to push the treadmill to its limits with high-intensity sprint intervals at a steep incline, and the motor performed exceptionally. My only wish for this model would be a decline running feature, even a slight 1-2 degree decline would make it even more exceptional. Perhaps in the next iteration.

Conclusion
When considering these treadmills, it’s only natural to explore both options. After all, the Sole F80 and F85 share the same frame and many similar features. When comparing the Sole F80 vs. F85, it’s crucial to pay attention to the details, as even small differences can make a significant impact on your choice. So, which one should you choose?
Which Treadmill Should You Buy?
The answer to this question ultimately hinges on the specific features you require in a treadmill. The most significant disparities lie in the F85’s more powerful motor, a higher weight capacity (375lbs total), and a significantly larger upgraded screen that enables phone or tablet mirroring. If any of these features are essential for you, the F85 is the way to go. However, if you’re comfortable using your phone or tablet and the weight capacity isn’t a concern for you, opting for the F80 can save you some money.
