Performance Review
The Peloton Tread comes with a lot of features built into it. Focusing on a technology first approach, the large touch screen and live class performance of the Tread are first class. The location of the button are very intuitive compared to other treadmills. Beyond that, to me I felt the Tread leaves a lot to be desired. While the belt feels soft to run on, it’s shorter length (68 inches) makes it feel like you could easily drift off the back. I can’t imagine being 6’+ on this. The shorter base and light weight also leads a to less stable feel. Especially at higher inclines. And I’m not a big runner.
On the other hand the NordacTrack Commercial 2950 Treadmill feels like a more solid platform. The 15% incline and -3% decline options really make this a winner when it comes to overall functionality. And the belt system feels soft and smooth when running. The platform is much longer. And the treadmill is a bit heavier, giving it a very stable feel. And it folds up! Tech wise the NordicTrack is not slouch. With a slightly smaller, but still plenty of screen, the live class feature from iFit performs great. You know you are going to get a great workout.
The price of both of these treadmills has come down in the last few years. And for good reason. NordicTrack originally priced the Commercial 2950 above $3k to compete with the Peloton Treads original $3k+ pricing. But as both drop, consumers are the ones that end up winning.

Conclusion
When comparing price and performance I think the winner is pretty clear. While the Peloton Tread may come with the slicker advertising, it just doesn’t live up to the hype when it comes to performance. The NordackTrack offers a higher incline and decline features built into a more solid base. It folds for storage and comes with a longer warranty. And while the Peloton offers a slightly higher speed. I’m not sure you would want to be running that fast on that short of a belt.
So if I’m deciding between the Peloton Tread vs the Nordictrack Commercial 2950 Treadmill, I’m going with the NordicTrack 2950 everytime. And depending on what you are looking for in a treadmill, may even look at more affordable options.
