As most runners either know or come to find out, a good pair of running gloves can be one of the most important layers in a runners gear arsenal. And today I’ll be looking at one of the more versatile sets of gloves for runners on the market with the TrailHeads convertible running gloves. Featuring a built-in windscreen that can slip on and off when the temperature starts to get cold and or windy. I’m a huge fan of the design concept overall, but how would they perform in the real world? I took them out for a 17 mile run on a blustery 28 degree (-2 Celsius) day to find out. Below are the specs key features and how they performed on the road and trails.

I’d been looking at new running gloves for a while. With winter and cold weather coming on quickly here in the south east. Having a good pair of gloves is an absolute must. So when I saw the TrailHeads convertible running gloves I knew I wanted to give them a try. I decided on the bright green and black. An awesome option for those of us looking to stay visible in the early morning or late night hours.
When the gloves arrived the first thing I noticed was the color. The green was bright and true to the photos online. Just what I was looking for! I also noticed they were connected by something that wasn’t that tag string. The gloves feature nifty little magnets that allow you to keep the pair connected when you are storing them. I really like this feature. They are also machine washable (on delicate). Another great feature to know before buying.
Performance
Putting on the TrailHeads convertible running gloves, I’d say they are light/medium thickness without the screen. Plenty warm for colder weather alone. And with the waterproof wind screen on, they are incredibly warm. Making them perfect for when you start out cold, hit a long shady section, or have the wind pickup on you. There are a couple of sections on my run that get really windy while being exposed to traffic moving quickly. Making for even more wind. And having the ability to put the shields on quickly then take them off is a game changer.
Running the gloves, they are incredibly comfortable. And I really enjoyed the soft fabric used on the back of the thumbs. Making soft for when you need to wipe your nose. An inevitable part of running outside in the cold weather. And this soft fabric felt great on the nose. And remember, they are washable. Next is the touchscreen fingers. Something that’s just necessary nowadays. Making it easy to check my phone after my run.
Conclusion and Would I get the TrailHeads Convertible Running Gloves Again?
Overall I’m a huge fan of these gloves. They are the perfect combination of running gloves and waterproof mittens. Build for taking on the most rugged weather conditions. The two in one design really is a game changer and I can see myself going back to traditional gloves. Here are my quick pros and cons from testing.
The pros: The gloves are comfortable and the two in one design is something that if you haven’t tried, you need to. With a waterproof design and all the luxury features you would want in gloves. Including the small touches like the magnet that allows you to keep them together easily.
The cons: The only real con is less a negative and more a feature request. I’d love to see these in a lighter model. Something with a thinner inner glove with the same outer shell. The two would be the perfect combo!
I really can’t say enough positive things about these running gloves. For the price they really do feel like a bargain for the amount of use they will end up getting. And since my first test run they have been a regular fixture on my long morning runs. They are the perfect gift for yourself or the runner in your life. So don’t waste any more time and just pull the trigger!
