In a little bit of unexpected OCR news, Spartan Race has announced that it may be introducing a multi lap spring option for 2023. With a test of the event being offered for the first time at the 2023 World Championship in the Bahamas. And while not all of the details have been released, below is what we know so far.
Spartan Race Introduces Multi-Lap Sprint
From the official release statement:
How Many Laps Can You Conquer?
For the first time ever, we are introducing a multi-lap 5k Sprint. In a five hour span, you’ll get the chance to complete as many laps as possible for prizes such as a season pass, trifecta pass, and more.
My Thoughts on The Potential New Heat
While Spartan Race has not announced that Multi-Lap Sprints will be a permanent format offered for future races. The brand does have a history of testing events on a small scale to see if they can work across multiple venues. And while Spartan Race is not new at experimenting with race formats, this one actually may be a winner.
This is a race format that a lot of racers have been asking for. If you’re going to sign up for an event and make a day of it, why not run multiple laps. There are a lot of people looking for the challenge of a longer endurance event that’s packed with obstacles. And for Spartan it’s rather easy to implement. And a great upsell. Which is really what the brand is looking for. But when it’s something the racers want, who cares. Take my money.
To be honest I haven’t raced a Spartan in a while, but a multi lap sprint might change that.
