Hoka Project Clifton Overview
Based on the design of one of Hoka’s most popular running shoes, the Hoka Clifton 8. The newly released Project Clifton is a futuristic take on the classic runner. Including design, cushion, and upper redesigns. With the end product delivering a unique and high end lifestyle shoe.
The biggest changes from the road running base include a sleek upper design. With the only branding being a modest logo on the rear heel and front tip of the sole. With the Hoka name written small along the quick lacing system and Hoka Aquagaurd Zip. And with with 4 unique color designs, they should catch the eye of more than few sneaker heads.
Next the Project Clifton comes with a “plush” cushioned sole. Which is softer than the “balanced” cushion of the Clifton 8. But aside from that, the shoes feature the same sole and grip patterns on the bottom of the shoes. All that said, the Project Clifton still manages to come in just a bit lighter in overall weight. But just barely.

Conclusion
By introducing the Hoka Project Clifton, the brand looks to be testing the waters in the high end athleisure market. Where style and aesthetic become more important. With the end goal of being able to sell a “lifestyle” shoe for $250. And with the brand loyalty that some running companies enjoy I won’t be surprised to find there is a market for this style of shoe. But the question still remains how large will the audience be, and will it spawn more offshoots from popular models?
We’ll have to wait and see for the answers on both of these, but for now I’ll save my money. Even with as much as love Cliftons. Nothing about the Project Clifton makes me feel like I need to add them to my collection. Especially when I can get a great pair of road and trail runners for roughly the same price. And to be honest, I am already fearing the next generation of Hoka releases. With carbon plated daily wear lifestyle shoes costing an absurd amount for all the bells and whistles we don’t need.
