adidas ADIZERO SL Overview
Designed to be an elite level running shoe at a more accessible price point, the adidas ADIZERO SL features a mix of the brand’s latest technologies. With the prime focus being in the forefoot and the Lightstrike Pro foam. The same foam featured in adidas pro line of shoes that were involved in breaking seven running world records in 2022. Behind that, the shoes feature a molded Lightstrike midsole frame. Designed to provide cushion and protection while pounding out the miles. The shoes upper is designed from an engineered mesh that provides a comfortable yet secure fit. And the tongue of the shoe has received a bit of extra cushion for max comfort.
On the bottom the ADIZERO SL features a smooth sole designed to create less friction while running. While sitting on what can be considered a tall stack height of 35 mm / 25 mm. Giving the shoes an aggressively fast feeling 10 mm drop. With these specs it’s clear these things are meant to feel fast. And will probably be better suited for short to mid, 5k to Half Marathon distance races.
As for weight, the ADIZERO SL comes in at 8.6 oz for a size 9. This makes them a mid weight shoe. Lighter than a lot of running shoes designed for max cushion or logging training miles. While being heavier than the true super shoes like the Vaporfly, which weigh under 7 oz. Making them a great balance of speed, cushion, and weight.

Conclusion
For me, the adidas ADIZERO SL screams mid distance performance. And being priced at $120, they are priced perfectly for the majority of runners looking to try out some new running technology. Now do they fall into the same class as the carbon plated “super shoes”, probably not. But for the price, I think adidas has hit a home run with the release.
