As you can imagine, there is no shortage of new and trendy workouts coming from social media. Some of them can be great additions to your workout routine. While others can put your body at risk of major injury. So to better help others I’m reviewing some of the latest workout trends, to help you find the most effective exercises, while still being safe and staying healthy. And today I’ll be reviewing and breaking down the 12-3-30 treadmill workout. Which started on YouTube and has continued to grow in popularity. So let’s breakdown and review the workout!
12-3-30 Treadmill Workout Review
Coined by YouTuber Lauren Giraldo, the 12-3-30 treadmill workout involved walking at 12 degree incline, at 3 miles per hour, for 30 minutes. An incredibly easy to remember workout that almost anyone can do with a treadmill.
The Pros
- A great workout for beginners to intermediate walkers and runners.
- Great for a recovery workout for weight lifters and body builders.
- The inline will actually be less impactful on your knees.
- Time effective workout that most people can fit in their day.
The Cons
- Can be tough for some beginners. It’s ok to build up to the 12 degree incline.
- Should be mixed with other workouts for best results.
Review
It’s not often you find trending workouts on social media and think, wow that’s a great idea. But with the 12-3-30 workout, I’m honestly impressed with the simplicity and effectiveness overall. The simple fact is that if you walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes a day, it’s going to have a positive impact on your health. And adding an incline will only make it more effective at building muscle and burning calories. The workout actually reminds me of a few workouts I do in training for races with a lot of elevation gain. Just done for longer and at higher speeds.
Another thing I really like about this workout is that walking at an incline is easier on your knees than flat or downhill walking. This is perfect for people with past injuries or just getting back into working after some time off. If you are a beginner, don’t hesitate to start lower and work up to the 12% incline.
Another great thing about the 12-3-30 treadmill workout is that you can easily make it more challenging. Just up the speed a bit, up the incline, go for longer, and any combo of the three. And you have unlimited options for workout variations off of this base template.
Closing Thoughts
It’s easy to pick apart influencers and some of the workouts they come up with. But credit where credit is do. For the 12-3-30 treadmill workout is a winner. It’s a workout that is simple to understand and that almost anyone can do. And I think a lot of people, from beginners to long time fitness enthusiasts, can benefit from adding this to their routine. I’ve even got a couple of the power lifters in my gym doing it on their off days for recovery. So don’t pass on this one just because it comes from an influencer.
